In an electrifying display of football prowess, the Pelican Stars of Calabar secured a notable victory against the star-studded First Mahi FC at the ongoing Nigeria Women Football League Championship. The match, held in the ancient city of Calabar, known for its deep-rooted football culture, saw the Pelican Stars extend their impressive run in the tournament.
Despite an initial setback with First Mahi FC scoring first, the Pelican Stars rallied to secure a 2-1 victory. Perpetual Ndekani played a crucial role, converting a penalty and Andy Faith, whose clinical header ensured the win. With this result, the Pelican Stars have maintained a perfect record of three wins from three games and currently lead Group A.
A victory against Heroes Queens in their next match would guarantee the Pelican Stars a spot in the Nigeria Women League next season, marking a significant achievement for the team and its supporters.
The Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Agnes Atsu, expressed her excitement over the result, which aligns with the “people first” mantra of the Cross River State government led by His Excellency, Sen. Prince Bassey Otu.
