Press Release: The Metropolitan Hotel, Calabar Remains Open and Committed to Guests’ Comfort and Satisfaction

By ETTAH EMMANUEL O.

Calabar, Nigeria, September 1, 2024 – The Metropolitan Hotel Calabar, renowned for its exceptional service and commitment to guest satisfaction, wishes to address recent rumours regarding its operations. We categorically deny claims that the hotel has been sealed by the Cross River State Government. These assertions are false. Our operations remain fully functional, and we are dedicated to providing a safe, comfortable, and memorable experience for our guests.

While there have been reports circulating, it is important to clarify that Mrs. Onari Duke is the Chairman of Eco Travels & Tour Ltd and not the Managing Director of the Hotel and there is no controversy surrounding the ownership of the property.
The Metropolitan Hotel Calabar was purchased by Eco Travels and Tours Ltd from Transcorp Hotels Plc, not from the state government. Allegedly, the Ministry of Justice acknowledged that a purchase attempt was made by the government in 2022, which underscores that the hotel was not state-owned as of that date.
The Hotel continues to comply with all regulatory requirements, and our commitment to operating within the bounds of the law remains steadfast.
